Mom uses the Internet to find help for her son.
Timothy Eli was born in Foley, Alabama on March 4th, 2015 at 4:42 PM. Weighing in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces and 19 and a half inches long, Eli, as he is known, was a perfectly healthy little boy, except for one thing.
“I never expected anything to be wrong with him, every ultrasound I ever had came back normal, so I was expecting a perfectly healthy baby boy, but to my surprise Eli was born without a nose,” mother Brandi McGlathery wrote on the family’s Go Fund Me and Facebook.
The newborn’s condition is extremely rare, causing the doctors to struggle with finding the right way to treat him.
Already ear, nose and throat specialists have determined that Eli has no nasal passages or sinus cavities. This makes it so that doctors are unable to build him a nose by plastic surgery. The family waits for the results of more medical testing. For now, doctors gave him a tracheostomy to assist his breathing, and are planning to connect a feeding bag to his stomach.
Ms. McGlathery put up a Go Fund Me page in order to raise money for her son’s care as she is unable to work full time and the bills are already mounting up. With a modest goal of just $5,000, they’ve already gotten donations of around $20,000.
“I don’t know what else to do,” she wrote on the page. “I would be so grateful for anything anyone could spare, but if you cannot afford to help with money I will be just as appreciative for prayers for my sweet Eli. He has a long road a head of him & we need all the support we can get.”
